     Fruit Salad could be a risky recipe when it comes to a party.  A bunch of random fruits in a bowl may not be liked by few unless otherwise, you are a fan of fruits. And the combination of fruits matters a lot when it comes to a Fruit Salad, my rule is always - minimum 3 fruits, but more would surely add beauty, colour and taste. Fruit Salad is a delicious combination of Fresh Fruits, Silky Custard and Crunchy Nuts. No wonder, it is an utter treat to your eyes & will equally seduce your taste buds.
     Fruit Salads are tasty and nutritious on their own & when it is served with a scoop of Custard Sauce the whole lot converts the combination into a delectable delicacy.  Combine fruits of your choice for this recipe.  This fresh Fruit Salad with Custard Sauce is a Fine combination of Fragrant & colourful Fruits, rich in flavour and texture.  My love for this dessert got me into a poetical mode.

HOW TO MAKE FRESH FRUIT SALAD  

   WITH CUSTARD SAUCE


FOR THE SWEET TOOTH
FRESH FRUIT SALAD WITH CUSTARD SAUCE


INGREDIENTS :

For the Custard :

Milk - 3/4 Cups
Egg Yolks - 3 Large Yolks
Sugar - 3-4 Tbspn
Vanilla Extract - 1 Tspn
Butter - 1 Tbspn

For Fruit Salad :

Banana - 2 Nos.
Mango - 1 No.
Apple - 1 No.
Pear - 1No.
Pineapple - Few Chunks
Honey Dew Melon - Few Pieces
Grapes - Few
Toasted Walnuts - Few (Optional)
Toasted Almonds - Few (Optional)
Sugar - Few Tspns


METHOD :



For the Custard:

  • Boil the Milk until steaming. Switch off the flame and leave it aside.
  • In a separate bowl whisk together the Egg Yolks and Sugar until combined.
  • Whisking constantly, slowly incorporate the hot milk into the egg mixture.
  • Transfer the mixture to a heavy-bottomed saucepan.
  • Heat the Custard over a very low flame for about 5 minutes or until it slightly thickens, stirring constantly.
  • It should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon.
  • Do not let the mixture overcook or allow it to reduce( the eggs will curdle.)
  • Immediately strain the Custard into a small bowl.
  • Stir in the Vanilla Extract.
  • Then stir in the Butter until melted.
  • Allow the Custard to cool.
  • Once it is completely cool, refrigerate the Custard for few hours.

For the Fruit Salad :

  • Peel the Bananas and cut it into slices or into small pieces.
  • Peel, core and dice Apples, Pear, Mangoes into small pieces.
  • Cut Pineapple slices into small pieces.
  • Cut Honey Dew Melon Slices into small pieces(or scoop it out into small balls).
  • Cut Grapes into halves or use it as such.
  • Combine all the fruits in a wide bowl.
  • Toss it up with few teaspoons of Sugar, this will avoid fruits getting oxidized.
  • Slightly toast the Walnuts & Almonds, slightly crush the nuts or cut it into small pieces.

Fresh Fruit Salad with Custard Sauce:

  • Just before serving, scoop out the chilled Custard Sauce in a small bowl/glass.
  • Top it up with a combination of chilled cut Fruits.
  • Add slightly toasted Walnuts & Almonds.
  • Immediately, serve Fresh Fruit Salad chilled,
  • Can top up the fresh fruit salad with more scoops of chilled Custard.
  • For a twist, can serve the Fresh Fruit Salad & Custard Sauce along with a scoop of Vanilla Ice cream.

NOTES :

  • Use a combination of preferred fruits.
  • Toss it up with few teaspoons of Sugar, this will avoid fruits getting oxidized.
  • Can cut the fruits into any desired shape.
  • Keep the cut fruits refrigerated until use. 
  • Nuts add crunchiness to the Fruit Salad but adding it is purely optional.
  • If adding Citrus fruits like Orange/Musambi do not combine it with other fruits,add it to the Fruit Salad just before serving.
  • The Custard Sauce recipe given here is from scratch, can prepare it with ready made Custard Powder too.
  • Do not leave the cut Fruits and Custard Sauce combined for a long time. 
  • The liquid would ooze out from the mixed fruits and will make the dessert watery.
